The last time I went to Kuala Lumpur was eons ago.
I don’t think I have ever been to Jalan Alor, but when a dish is named after a place and is actually made famous, I am intrigued.
Jalan Alor Chicken Wings.
Does it not sound delicious??
It was simply something I HAD to try.
The fact that it was a chicken wing recipe made it even more alluring because we are nuts about chicken wings here and I am always on the look out for a good chicken wing recipe. So if you have such a recipe, please do share it with me! π
These wings were so easy to put together I was a tad worried. What if they didn’t live up to my expectations?
But to my relief, I was a worry wart for nothing because they turned out to be fabulous!!!
Man, I was going bonkers from the aroma as they were cooking in the oven.
Here are the (very few) steps on how to cook these super tasty wings.
NOTE: I used chicken drumlets because they were all I had in my fridge.
In a bowl, add the wings/ drumlets/ mid-joints/ any other chicken parts as well as the garlic, shallots and ginger.
Add the remaining seasonings – light and dark soy, sesame oil, salt, sugar and white pepper.
Stir to coat the chicken. Cover with cling film and place in the fridge to marinate for 2 hours (minimum). Give the chicken an occasional stir while marinating.
Place the chicken on the kitchen top for about 30 minutes to bring them back to room temperature before grilling.
Spray a roasting tray (or casserole dish) with cooking oil spray and arrange the chicken on the tray.
Spray with a little oil then grill the chicken at 180Β°C for 20 minutes. At the end of this time, flip them over, baste the chicken with the remaining marinade, spray with a little more oil then grill for an additional 10 minutes.
Garnish with chopped chives and chili, if desired.
Serve the chicken hot, or cold, with rice or as a snack.
These drumlets are WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY good!

Hi may I know approximately how much sugar and salt have you added? For the dark soya sauce, its 1 tbsp or 1 tsp? Thanks so much!
1 tablespoon dark soy, about 1/2 teaspoon salt and 1/4 teaspoon pepper. Cheers.
i am going to cook your chicken! It looks fantastic! What is white soy? I have. Not heard of it! You also posted a recipe for a cream cheese muffin made in three bowls! It has a topping of butter, caster sugar, and four! I am not sure . Topping is mixed with fingers. I love it, reading it. I cannot get it back! Is there a way for me to get again! So sorry to bother you! Please excuse me! K
Hi Karen, where did you see white soy?? I searched and searched by I can’t find it!
Thanks for sharing
You are welcome Judy! π
Hi,
I tried the recipe and even marinated the chicken overnight. However, the marinate doesn’t seems to get into the meat.
How? Do you know what went wrong?

My all time favourite
Hi Diana
Thanks for your great recipe!
I hv made it twice n both times were well received!
That is fantastic Grace! This is one of my family’s favorite recipes π
Hi Diana, like to check with you do you use frozen wings that bought in ntuc etc? Coz my husband always complain there is a frozen smell although I follow the instructions. He can taste the difference between frozen and fresh. How to solve the problem? Coz I’m working, it is hard to go market to buy fresh wings everytime. Thanks so much.
Hey Wendy You can squeeze a bit of ginger juice on the chicken. It should help to remove any odour. Failing which, I think you have to buy from the market or order online from Purely Fresh – their chicken is delivered chilled from the wet market.
Thank you.
I adore jalan alor chicken wings. I have tried a similar marinade but using honey instead but the taste was not as similar as it had some shaoxing wine in it. Willing to give it a try but I have chicken parts in the form of chicken thigh pieces chopped up, do u think it could work just as well? Wouldld cooking time be different? Also if you substitute sugar with honey would the taste be offset (although honey is sweeter but it does give it a more caramelized glossy apperance.) Thanks if u can reply asap.
Hi you can use honey but the taste will change according to which honey you use since they taste different..
Hi, thanks for sharing this yummy dish. May I know what cooking oil spray u use ? From NTUC or ? Thanks ya
